Venkatarami Reddy dismissed by govt: The Andhra Pradesh government has officially dismissed K. Venkatarami Reddy, the former president of the AP Secretariat Employees’ Association, from service. The decision follows a detailed inquiry which confirmed that Reddy violated civil service rules by actively campaigning for the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) during the 2024 General Elections. The dismissal order was issued on Monday by S.S. Rawat, Special Chief Secretary (Services and HRM) of the General Administration Department, after obtaining the necessary clearance from the APPSC.

The primary charges for dismissal

Venkatarami Reddy dismissed by govt: According to the government order, Venkatarami Reddy, who served as an Assistant Secretary in the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department, abandoned his neutrality as a public servant to act as a political operative.

Venkatarami Reddy toured various RTC depots, including Badvel, Mydukur, Proddatur, and Kadapa, urging Public Transport Department (PTD) employees to vote for the YSRCP during the 2024 elections. These activities occurred both before and after the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into force. He allegedly used his position as chairman of the AP Government Employees’ Federation to influence ward and village secretariat employees through rallies and the distribution of political pamphlets.

Venkatarami Reddy dismissed by govt:: The controversy surrounding Venkatarami Reddy reached a peak in April 2024 when the Election Commission (EC) took note of complaints filed by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). The TDP led NDA coalition government appointed YSR Kadapa district Collector as the inquiry officer on the allegations on Mr. Reddy.

Following recommendations from the YSR Kadapa District Collector, the government placed Reddy under suspension a two years ago. After reviewing Reddy’s explanations which the government deemed “unsatisfactory” the inquiry concluded that the allegations of misconduct were proven.

Final report proves Mr. Reddy guilty

The inquiry report was submitted on 19 April 2025 has confirmed that Mr. Reddy had utilized his “On Duty” (OD) facility as a union leader to further political agendas. Exactly two years after his initial suspension proceedings began, the government moved to terminate his service permanently.

The report highlighted several specific instances where Reddy functioned more as a “party spokesperson” than a bureaucrat. Venkatarami Reddy’s dismissal marks the most significant disciplinary action taken against a high-ranking employee union leader in recent state history.
